ABOUT

Born into an artistic family, Romain Labaye started playing the drums by self teaching himself at the age of 2, but eventually fell in love with the bass at the age of 14 after he heard Weather Report and especially Jaco Pastorius.

In 2011, he moved to Paris to enter the famous Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (CNSMDP) but he left after one year to go on his own.

In the meantime, he would spend most of his time in Paris' jam sessions, where he met some of the greatest names of the Parisian Jazz Scene and eventually went on to play with artists such as Nguyên Lê, Céline Bonacina, Jerry Léonide, Tom Ibarra, Gergo Borlai, Linley Marthe, Dean Brown, Nina Attal, Mario Canonge, Alain Debiossat, Paco Sery, Mario Canonge, Chander Sardjoe, Karim Ziad, Omri Mor, Michel Fugain, Scott Jones, Thierry Maillard…

He is since 2016 a member of Scott Henderson’s Trio and appears on his last album “People Mover”.
He’s also the bass player of Phonic Nomads, a band he co-founded with Archibald Ligonnière.

"I immediately fell in love with the sound of these amps from the second I played them."—says Romain—“They're giving my bass its natural tone, and they fit in every situations, from club gigs to bigger venues. And one of the best thing about Markbass is their very lightweight gear. You can travel with your own sound everywhere in the world, and that’s what I do. I always carry my own bass head on tour so I can have my sound!
